The Authoritative DNS server holds the IP address and other essential DNS data about the domain name. You write a domain name in your browser, and the DNS query is sent to your internet service provider (ISP). The recursive server of your ISP could have the requested data cached in its memory. In case it is not, the recursive server performs a search through different servers to find the needed information. The last action is to receive the IP address from an Authoritative DNS server.
The Authoritative DNS server is the place where the original zone records are stored. It doesn’t cache any results of queries. Instead, it operates with the original data that is saved directly in its system.
